An Explosion of Time — Embellished Print (One of Three)
Tim Ruth
Hand-Embellished Mixed Media Print on Paper / Canvas
Smaller-format work derived from the original painting
Overview
This is one of three embellished prints of An Explosion of Time, extending the conceptual and spiritual inquiry of the original painting into a more intimate scale. Each work originates from a high-quality reproduction of the original composition and is subsequently transformed through extensive hand-finishing, making every piece unique.
While smaller in scale, these works retain the core mathematical, geometric, and philosophical structures explored in the original painting—offering collectors the opportunity to engage with the work’s ideas through a more personal, contemplative format.
Time, Number, and the Fibonacci Sequence
As with the original work, this embellished print explores the deep structures of time, space, and consciousness through sacred geometry and mathematical patterning. Central to the composition is an investigation into the origins of modern time measurement—specifically the sixty-second minute, the 360-degree circle, and the 24-hour day—suggesting roots beyond purely arbitrary historical convention and pointing instead toward universal numerical order.
Through close observation of a recurring cycle within the Fibonacci sequence—where the final digit of each number forms a repeating pattern every sixty terms—the work articulates a hidden mathematical logic underlying the architecture of time itself. Building on the research of Lucien Khan, the clock is presented not as a human invention, but as a natural consequence of harmonic numerical law, embedded within the Fibonacci sequence and expressed through geometry.
Sacred Geometry and Spiritual Structure
The underlying structure of the composition is formed through an overlay of interlocking circles, progressing from the Vesica Piscis through increasingly complex geometric assemblies culminating in Metatron’s Cube. Within this framework, Fibonacci-based circular constructions reveal deeper symbolic and spiritual dimensions.
Most strikingly, the completed assembly of these circles discloses the structure of the 216-Letter Name of God, a concept in Kabbalah derived from three verses in Exodus (14:19–21), each containing seventy-two letters. These verses form seventy-two triads, understood as expressions of divine attributes. In mystical tradition, this composite name is believed to encode profound spiritual truths and to herald a higher stage of human consciousness.
These ideas are not presented as doctrine, but as visual inquiry—inviting contemplation of the relationship between mathematics, spirituality, and perception.
Hand-Embellishment and Meditative Process
Each print has been individually reworked by the artist using paint, gold leaf, and mixed media applications. Beyond surface embellishment, a deliberate meditative process was undertaken for every work: all numerical elements within the composition were consciously rewritten by hand, one by one, during focused meditation.
This act was not decorative, but devotional—re-inscribing the mathematical language of the work through presence, repetition, and attention. As a result, no two embellished prints are the same. Each bears subtle variations in texture, luminosity, and emphasis that arise only through direct engagement.
Gold leaf and metallic pigments introduce depth and reflectivity, echoing the symbolic role of gold within the work—as a material associated with purity, incorruptibility, and endurance across cultures and time.
Central Glyph and Resonance
At the heart of the composition lies the phonetic symbol /ɔ:/—a sound resonating as “or” or “awe.” Across many languages, this sound is closely associated with gold. The symbol also corresponds to one of the Five Healing Sounds found in Tibetan and Taoist traditions, believed to cleanse and restore balance, particularly within the heart.
This central glyph anchors each embellished print energetically, transforming it from a reproduction into an experiential field of resonance.
Relationship to the Original Work
These embellished prints are not replicas of An Explosion of Time, but hand-altered derivatives that carry forward its conceptual and spiritual framework. The original painting remains singular and irreproducible; these works exist as contemplative offshoots—each shaped through renewed attention, material intervention, and meditative practice.
They offer an intimate point of entry into the ideas of sacred geometry, Fibonacci-based time structures, and mathematical consciousness explored in the original work.
Edition and Collectability
One of three embellished prints
Each work is individually hand-finished
Each piece is unique within the edition
This edition is final, ensuring the singularity of each print. The artist may undertake bespoke commissions exploring related themes.
A Considered Addition to a Collection
These works are suited to collectors who resonate with the depth of An Explosion of Time and seek a more personal engagement with its themes. Though born from reproduction, each embellished print stands as a singular object—marked by time, touch, and contemplative attention.
Original paintings come signed with a wax seal and a Certificate of Authenticity.
